I used to boil with the lid on, as the tightass in me reasoned that I'd lose less wort that way through evaporation (go figure...).

Then I tried with the lid off and never looked back. It definitely tastes better...

Lid off and boil the bejesus out of it ! :D

Likewise! I've never properly calculated my evaporation rate but I think its pretty high! On the weekend I estimate I boiled off between 10-12L for a 60min boil.

same as sam and razz for me. it doesnt take long for it to boil using my burner so no need for a lid.

I boil with the lid off, however as I am doing mini mashes (15l batches, I add 3l of water to fermenter), and boiling on SWMBO's stovetop, I leave the lid on til it gets going (30 min) , then lid off all the way.

I would be interested in hearing what rate of evaporation different people have with the different methods as i am trying to bed down my efficiency a little more and would love to get a cross section of what the broader AHB community is acheiving in this regard.

Cheerts,
