Diluting hop flavour in a beer - fixing over hopped beer

Hops will drop out with time. Leave the beer 6 months and it might be more to your liking. If not keep some sparkling water on hand and dilute it a bit. Should get rid of the extra unwanted flavour.
 
TrustyRusty, if it is too bitter when cold, drink it warmer, and pour it with a decent head and let it settle.

Won't 'fix' it but it will taste different. (not intending to start a war over what temp ppl should drink their beer at, but this will take the edge of it).

it is undrinkable for me cold or warm...

I just had an idea as you do :)

What if I make about 5l mini beer (500 g malt + 5l water?) (might add a bit of honey), boil and cool and then add that to the keg as sort of secondary fermentation. There should be enough yeast in there - 20 long necks worth?

I think that would work?

Hi Guys,

Just follow up.... I had 7 or 8 bottles of a pale ale that was over carbed... So chucked them in so about 7:20 (original) ratio - better.....but still a hoppy after taste...
I chucked in a 500 ml of water with about 10% brown sugar (in the fridge so it should not ferment?) - That has taken the edge off....turned OK...not a bad drop...

I think there must have something wrong with hops - as it was dry hopped it should have been aromatic - not really taste....

Anyhow better than checking out...

Call me the 'fixer' :) like those cooking shows when they have to fix a bad recipe....

I did actually fix another beer once. European lager that had an awful flavour - something went wrong. I chucked brewed beer back in fermenter from bottles ...made a honey and brown sugar solution 500ml....with some wheat yeast I had from a recent brew. 15 days ...then in secondary with some more honey.... turned not a bad drop after 4 months.. :)

FYI - took original beer I made to HBS - they said I made a perfect beer....

Probably the Columbus I don;t like as noted by manticle..... each to their own..then I am not a big fan of that hops.... still can;t work out that if dry hopping is for aroma then why was the taste so strong...

Mid Addition - Bitterness (M) / Flavour (M)
Late addition - Bitterness (L) / Flavour (H) / Aroma (H)
Dry Hop - Bitterness (L) / Flavour (M) / Aroma (H)

where

H = High
M = Medium
L = Low
