You deserve more than a glass for your help Kev. At first I wasn't sure about the brewer's gold taste, but it's grown on me. I wouldn't use it in a pale ale, but in a stout it really adds a nice edge. Thanks man.

Glad you like it, it's great reading when someone loves a beer style that they had never though of trying. It's not the main stream, but like you said for a nice dark beer it works very well. Yep not a hop for a pale ale.

What was the recipe in the end?

Final recipe was 200g each of crystal and carared, 100g of choc, a tin of Saunder's malt and one of the Cooper's Dark extract made to 24 L, and brewed with Nottingham.

PS 15g of Brewers-Gold hops added @ 20 minutes.
