Hi everyone.

I put down a can of Coopers European larger five days ago (29/09/10) with 4/5 of coopers Brew Enhancer 2 (about 700g) and 500g of light dry malt extract. Also put about 20g of Saaz and 20g of Hallertau in boiling water for 2 mins.

I tasted some of it today when checking its gravity and although it did not taste bad it did not really taste of very much at all.

I havent tasted any of my brews before they have finished fermenting so im not sure if this is normal.

Any thoughts? I could put some more hops but they wouldnt affect the bitterness, would they. Or could i boil some for 20mins in a litre or so and pop it in, or just wait.

Any thoughts would be great, cheers

What sort of flavours are you after?

Hop Aromas
Then you could throw it in and dry hop the fermenter.

Hop Flavours
I believe a 20min boil will deliver this you may need to add some malt to your boil as well may be 100g/L but am unsure of the quanties. May one of the more experienced brewers can help with this.

Personally I would give it time maybe the sugers need time for the yeast to do its magic. You may get some more bitterness/crispness out of the fermentation process. There is no doubt that adding more hops / malt will give you more flavours but for me its getting the mix right. I dont believe that the euro larger is an overly bittered kit either. You have already hopped but from what i have read i believe you would only add aromas with such a short time in the water.

Also food for thought my worst brews got better over time, and swapping dex/sugar for malt also resulted in better beer.

Thanks for the input J,

I tried it again today and it was a massive improvement, will keep on testing my gravity readings and see how it goes.

After you bottle or keg, the euro larger it will need at least 3 months to taste any good. Good luck have made it a few times not a bad drop but you just have to give it time.
