Does any-one out there use a cool room at all, or know of any cool room set ups for the home brewer ?
A cool room has come up for grabs through a friend of a friend' bla bla, and i am not sure if i really want it, or could really utilize it ?

It is currently on a trailer, and is approx 1.8 x 2.4 & 2m high with adjustable shelving inside.

What do you think?

Help
:(

Well if I had the room for it i would certainly take it and put it to good use.

That is how you would sell it to the CFO.
When you get it home, take the wheels off the trailer and fein structual integrity problems with the trailer :p

The Cool Room would come to me without the trailer...........

I would just have to sneak it down the side of the house ( when the mrs isnt looking ).

I don't think so. It is illegal to sell Home Brew...Unless of course you are hiring the trailer only and the contents just happened to be left overs from your own use that you forgot to remove...

well if u are running three fridges - just buy it and sell 2 of the fridges - convert the biggest to a fermentaion fridge - sit it at 10 degrees for lagers and 18 for ales.

Job Done - Next hard question :)

Or there for you to trial the setup and then get your own beer in when the original contents are finished with.

ok it seems like i havent lost the plot ! thanks guys !

GMK, could you just relay that to my mrs and all should be sweet !
ha! :p

hmmm

What floor is in the coolroom when the trailer is removed? You may need something to mount it on if the trailer floor was the coolroom base (The conversation will start, Yes dear, but I need 8 bags of premix concrete for the back step :) and that little piece in the back corner and .... )

The other thing is what size compressor unit is on it and what condition it is in.

Cheers

Mate, I'll go with the others and tell you to snap it up!

However, that's to be expected on this forum

I too, would definitely snap it up, as it looks like its gonna be a long hot summer, and I am not too sure about the effects of the heat on my bottled beer. Besides, who couldnt do with more beer storage room? Maybe look into the cost of keeping the thing turned on 24-7, if its less than the cost of the 3 fridges, then you owe it to yourself to get it, its gonna save you money! More cash for grain and hops! If I had it, I would probably just ferment in there aswell, providing I could get it at a reasonable temp. Theres probably gonn abe plenty of room for a few fermenters on the floor...

Go for it.
I started making initial plans last friday to construct a cool-room.
Mine will be 2 metres X 3 metres and 2.5 high.
Five fridges plus one fermentation freezer in the garage alone is a joke.
I've got plenty of room and it will be happening in late January.

Man I'll love a cool room
Only problem I can see is they cost a lot ro run , my mate had one in WA , he had to sell it as it cost him too much to run.

I don't think it would cost too much to run a coolroom in Sydney.

Running costs will be greatly affected by the insulation of the coolroom and the ventilation of the condenser arrangement.

You need to seal it really well from top to bottom, with silicone in even the tiniest gaps, and make sure there is a good flow of cool air over the condenser. If you can put it under the shade of a tree or similar so much the better.

I don't imagine it will cost much to run either, proberly less than running 4 or 5 fridges no doubt. Mine is only 1.2m x 1.2m running of a 1/4 horse power aircon and i don't even notice it on the power bill at all, thats with it in the sun and with a dodgey door seal. As its for beer you won't be running anywhere near as cold if it were say for other food products like fish and meat and so forth, more like a cool cellar temp, well thats what i do anyway.

I'd get rid of every fridge and ferment in the cool room as well, so although the cool room will be cooler than the temp your after for a ale fermentation, simply having the fermentor insulated or use a heat pad set up to your fermentation fridge controller, theres plenty of ways to go about it anyway. I simply take the fermentor out of the cool room for a few hours each day if it gets to cold.

Anyway I will be expecting you to take delivery of this anyday now and if not i hope it does find a home with a brewer somewhere.

Iam sure the missus can be talked around with all this arguement.

Another bonus is its big enough to set up a hamock in for summer time right next to your beer. :super:

All my love

best thing for a hangover, sit in the coolroom for a while sipping cold water
not to mention lagering!
