That and software estimates are just that - estimates. As drK intimated, each yeast will have an attenuation range. Does beersmith include a variety of yeast types and their attenuation range in its calculations? Cell count/starter size? Mash temp? I know it used to be a bit arbitrary with FG predictions but may have improved (not a BS user personally).
 
Yes Beersmith includes all of those variables manticle, I believe it takes the median value for yeast attenuation range however I haven't drilled down closely enough to state that hand on heart, but it is definitely mid range...
 
Cool. They seem pretty proactive in terms of improvements as far as this non-user can tell.
