citric acid powder from woollies in the baking section in hot water works nice

Afternoon all,

Anyone know the best way/product to use to clean out copper pipe?

Im converting my immersion chiller into a counterflow chiller so id like to give the pipe a good cleanup before i put wort through it...
It has a bit of that blue/greenish residue in it that you usually see on copper fittings.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, I'll also but up details of the build and cost etc if anyone is interested.

Cheers,
Mick.

Anything acidic will remove the oxides - white vinegar, starsan, psosphoric acid, wort, mash.

citric acid or vinegar is good, For the outside I just use a SS scrubber works a treat little more work but dont have to soak it. See guys use CLR on it but I wouldnt use that if its in contact with the wort.

Here is a picture of just using stainless steel wool but very hard to clean inside of the pipes lol.

Failing that drop it into your mash tun next time you brew that usually cleans them up pretty well. but might want to get majority of the crud off first

I never discussed anything but cleaning cooper. Its just a piece of pipe I tried something on. Could be a HERMS kinda thing with a element up the guts and wort flows threw the tubes.... But it aint!

THats a nice looking RC :p

I have found Phosphoric acid, Oxalic acid or Sulphuric acid would me my choices, after years of cleaning basically everything and anything in the industrial painting game. Sulphuric will work the quickest, Oxalic the slowest.

Cheers.

Great idea! Coils of copper can be pressed into service in "all sorts" of different applications.... ;)

Nar thats my quad toilet brush holder I can never have enough toilet brushes. has to shine like the bowl

Its blatantly obvious its a four barrel venturi style smoke generator with built in cooling to ensure cold smoke....You should add it to the smoking thread :p

Cheers.
