A little while back I got one of these things from GMK and never bothered to use it with my keg fridge setup. Now that I have one of the small Co2 bottles from Goliath's I'll probably use that to force carbonate my kegs and since I have the check valve handy I might as well use it. Problem is, I'm not sure which direction it should go. I've added a picture so you all know what I'm on about.

Im sure youve tried this already, but blowing through it may be enough to see whether it flows in a particular direction. If not, just give it a blast from your co2 bottle and it should flow one direction but not the other.

The reg outlet goes on the right so that the CO2 gas flows in the direction of the arrow.....
