Just after some recipe advice in regards to making a Californian steam beer, purchased Beersmith the other day and now all I want to do is make beer!

Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!

This is something along the lines of the Brewing classic styles version with my tweaks and without chocolate cause i dont like it.

OG: 1054

75% Pale Malt
9% Munich
8% crystal/ caramalt 60L
5% Victory

Wyeast 2112 - fermented at 16 degrees

You really need to use this yeast for it to be a true steam beer or the whitelabs equivalent, the yeast plays a big part.

Edit: you may need some hops in it too... :p
Northern brewer all the way.
23ibu @ 60min
20ibu @ 15min

Ingredients

Ingredients
Amt Name Type # %/IBU
4.50 kg Pale Malt, Traditional Ale (Joe White) (5.9 EBC) Grain 1 78.3 %
0.55 kg Munich I (Weyermann) (14.0 EBC) Grain 2 9.6 %
0.45 kg Crystal Medium - (Thomas Fawcett) (157.6 EBC) Grain 3 7.8 %
0.23 kg Victory Malt (Briess) (59.1 EBC) Grain 4 4.0 %
0.02 kg Chocolate Malt (Thomas Fawcett) (1000.8 EBC) Grain 5 0.3 %
30.00 g Northern Brewer [8.50 %] - Boil 60.0 min Hop 6 29.5 IBUs

1.0 pkg California Lager (Wyeast Labs #2112) [125.00 ml] Yeast 9 -

Comes out pretty good. Its straight out of Brewing Classic Styles. The only thing that stops me brewing it more often is the yeast, I can't seem to get my yeast library up to scratch....

Good Luck, its a great beer style!
