500ml x2
1Litre x2
2Litre x2

The prices at ProSciTech, for one off purchases, seem to be less than these prices.

500ml $7
1000ml $11

1000ml is their largest.

Wicked, thanks guys :) just saved me some more bucks. I called and asked them if they could beat those prices and they said if I got the entire shipment sent to 1 address (mine I guess) and then divided it myself and sent it out to each individual they could do them for the following prices;

...................10+......25+
500ml.......$ 7.85....$ 5.12
1 litre.......$10.48....$ 7.96
2 litre.......$17.52....$13.73

Australia Post gave me the same prices for postage as I got from the supplier. I'll update the first post with the new prices

Just check and make sure they are individually boxed and wrapped or you have a source of free boxes & bubble wrap to post them in. I will be up for another 2L, just bought one and paid double that price

Cheers

Sully

Cannibal, if you go with the option to get them all posted to your place, would pick-up be fine with you?

I was advised each flask will be individually wrapped before dispatch, boxing of individual flasks will be my repsonsibility once the bulk package arrives.

edit: kram, pickup will be fine by me

Couldn't get a flask from Ross as he's currently out, so compromised by buying a 1.5 glass bottle of V-8 juice. It's one of the few products that still come in glass. After a quick taste  I poured the contents down the sink but the bottle is a brilliant little starter bottle. If you step up the temperature you can scald it with boiling water, after nappy sanning it to get rid of any rings, without cracking and I expect it to be my little workhorse for the forseeable.

Apart from starters what else do you guys use the flasks for?

:icon_offtopic:

Did that V8 jar have a flat bottom Bribie?
With three litre Erlenmeyers so expensive I was lucky enough to find a 50-year old round lolly jar with a bakelite lid that holds 4.2 litres of wort. Just the thing for my lager starters. :super:

TP

Will 2L flasks provide enough room for a Wyeast starter? Is it better to go for a 3L flask? I will be using a stir-plate as well.

Nope, definitely concave. I really like the idea of a big mother flask to go with my lab coat, digital hop scales, LCD thermometer, wild hair gel.. ... 2L should be ideal size.

PS Wyeast comes in two varieties, the Activator green pack and the Propagator red pack. The green pack AFAIK is the only one available from Ross, at any rate. The Activator claims that it contains enough live yeasties to directly innoculate a brew so that it will immediately go anaerobic and start producing alcohol rather than breeding up. On the other hand the Propagator, as its name suggests, needs to be PROPAGATED by turning it into a starter and breeding up to the required cell count. As a result of this it is cheaper, but not available in Oz unless other suppliers are stocking it

Reason I want a good starter vessel is of course to breed up from saved yeast samples.

Dicko,

IMHO 2 litre flasks are great for ale yeasts but there is not enough room in them for a decent lager yeast starter. Using a blow-off tube is just a waste of yeast unless you go to the trouble of ensuring the other container is sealed & sterilised as well. Easier to use a bigger flask or whatever.

TP

in that case, any chance of adding 3l or 5l to the bulk buy?

We have sourced our Erlenmeyer Flasks from Livingstone as well.

Some quality problems with them.

Some have flat bottoms and others have concave bottoms. The latter are a PITA to get the stir bar in the centre and keeping it there.

Also one of the 2 liter ones developed a crack in the side. When we told Livingstone about it they said
"We have a better quality one we will sell you at a reduced price"
Not impressed

So if you have heard that someone paid more for theirs, this might not be a bad thing.

I would ask them for this buy if they can supply them all with flat bottoms and see what they say.

A pic of a few of ours at work. We have 4 stir plates and 10 flasks of different sizes.

Cheers,
Bud

I have always used a 2lt for my lagers and pilsners,I find it adequate.
