The one I got from Craft Brewer (Italian made) had poppets that couldn't be removed - but the posts appear to be identical otherwise to the regular corny posts - so perhaps you could swap them if you need to remove the poppets. Unfortunately my little corny is all gassed up at the moment so I can't test this.

I bought a 9L keg a few months ago during Winequip's 'moving sale' ($125). It's italian made and, as I understand, Winequip is the importer who onsells to other lhbs's. Mine is the same as the new 9L kegs avail from G&G.

Just removed one of the posts to check out the poppet situation. The three-legged prongs are a little longer than the standard variety but they spring out to a similar diameter and also lock into a recess. So, I'd imagine the poppets go in easily and then lock into place during assembly. No where near as convenient as the standard poppet arrangement IMO, but I'm sure they are removable, albeit with a bit of fiddling. If forced to remove one right now, I'd be securing the post upside down in a vice and then simultaneously depressing the poppet spring (say, with a small diam drift punch) and trying to flick out the prongs out of engagement with the recess (say, using something fine like a scriber or micro screwdriver). PITA, yes, but permament, no.

Whether or not the standard poppet can be used as a replacement in the 'italian' post remains to be confirmed. My italian posts aren't broke, so I don't intend on trying to 'fix' em just yet h34r: .

BTW. One of the things I really appreciate about the 9L keg is that I can sit it on top of the motor box in the chest freezer-come-beerfridge. Gets you more beer capacity bang for your beerfridge buck. A beauty for high gravity beers where I bottle 1/2 and keg the other 1/2. Hmmmm, there's room for a 2nd, so will I or wont I....................?
