Anyone seen the signs around the Hallam and Dandenong area that say..

"Brewery now open, Slabs from $24.00"

A mate at work told me about it and Im thinking, awesome a new microbrewery to try out.

But turns out its one of those brew on premises places called brew by U.

Surely thats false advertising? I can imagine there would be more than a few people pissed off to find out you cant just buy a slab for $24.00 but have to make it yourself then bottle it.

Nice attempt at trying to get people in the door but I can see them walking straight back out again when they realise what the deal is.

Those places a great! They pretty much teach customers how to brew..
Therefore eventually killing off their chances of repeat business..

It's (one similar) what got me started in brewing 2 years ago :)

Really? The one in canberra taught me how not to brew!

A forum member recently did a brew at one of these joints & walked away with at least one bottle bomb that did a bit of damage to his person. When he complained they offered him a free brew. Um, no.

Hahahhahaha

The brew by u place here in adelaide (very friendly man, filled my co2 bottle for 30 bux) tried to convince me I need to start brewing with them for the time saving. Tried their pilsner, I could taste the effect of their 24 degree C ferment in there, everything gets done at 24C. Told him that, I can taste estery sweetness, on top of the lower attenuation, he was trying to convince me that the sweetness was due to using cascade hops!!!!

Even claimed that they add some hops to some brews to get the caramel taste happening. Dumbfounded. I've got nothing against extract brewing but they could use a fair injection of grey matter and facts.

Well they say this on their site, so thats at least better than priming and risking bottle bombs, but then wouldnt they also need some sort of CPBF to fill the bottles?

Lastly your beer will be carbonated using a state-of-the-art electronic carbonator ready for you to bottle or keg.

"Slab for $24" would have rang alarm bells for me. What kind of beer can you expect for $24??

I wouldn't brew they way they did either..
But it got me interested in brewing.. That's all my point was...

I concur, false advertising if you ask me. Though I think the worst that can happen is someone will walk in there and go "right... no beer on the shelf" and be inconvenienced. Which might work against them.
If beer was there for purchase and it was a different price to what was advertised I think they'd get themselves into trouble.

What they SHOULD say is "Brewery open, make slabs for $24". Or maybe "make frag grenades for $24".

off the website, i had read this ages ago and thought i would not have the fridge space for 50 odd bottles..... You have to keep them cold, hence the bottle bombs....

Step 5: Storage
After you get your beer home from U-Brew It, it needs to be kept cold in a fridge to avoid any re-fermentation should any yeast get through the filtration system. Because at U-Brew It, we do not add any chemicals or preservatives to guard against re-fermentation. This is a safe guard to protect your beer.

I can make 19Lt of AG hefe for that price and its bloody deliscious!

but to respond to your sarcasm.....$24 for a slab of beer from U brew it would not be good.

Used to go to the brew 4 U on Zillmere Road at Virginia to get my c02 bottle filled. I think it was about $25, which is awesome.

They didn't seem to want to try to sell me their brewing product. I must have looked like I knew what I was talking about.

I did notice that they tend to tweet and instagram a great deal (through their website) and, if you don't know any better, they make it sound exciting.

The old man gets he's kegs filled by a place called Brew for You in Geelong. When he started going there is was called You brew and you had to do the brewing yourself, now, new owners and new name and they rather you place your order over the phone and drop off your kegs to be filled. Not sure how they handle bottles.

Beers not to bad either, not great, but not too bad and a lot less work for those who are time poor

I've complained in another thread on a similar issue. Mate of mine got sent home with a 1056 FG belgian.

It's because the beer is preservative free dude. That RIS you're aging in your cellar must have preservatives. Ameteur. :p

Nup, just splash it straight into your bottles from a tap just like the one sticking out of your fridge.

I wonder if they are paying excise tax.

Have you ever tried to talk to someone who religiously goes to these places to get beer? So annoying.

It's like "dude, the information they're giving you is plain wrong" and then they treat you like you're just a stupid homebrewer and these professionals would know waaaaay more than you.

Preservative-shaming is the amateur's way of differentiating themselves as drinkers (Euro-swillers are especially bad with this). Too bad it's a furphy.

I understand this is ********, just posted to show that they are sending out beers that have maybe not finished fermenting yet!

This is their insurance policy against bottle bombs.... If you have one that explodes they ask if you kept it in the fridge, hence your fault not theirs..... I am not defending them.....
