Perming solution or Paint thinner?

Thiols, phenolics or fusels?

I'd put money on fusels (paint thinner/acetone). You may want to contact the manufacturer or yeast supplier re the results of your unsponsored experiment.

On the other hand, steeping grain overnight might lead to a bit of lacto, as well.

It might age out OK, but don't bet your nuts on it!

Definite perming solution or used paint stripper you know that gel type that you paint on and the paint melts off, not thinners it's not an actone smell, its more along the lines of an acid I used to work at an electroplaters and it reminds me of the acid tanks.

But yeah I think your right about contacting the manufacturer and see what they have to say. Had a taste tonight and it tastes nothing remotely like it did yesterday getting worse every day

Here the wash up on the saga:
After one week on the rack smell dropped stacks but was still there, visaully looked a lot clearer tasted very cidery.
After two weeks looked great very clear, still smelt and tasted cidery. so I dry hopped it with 30g tettnang plugs for 3 days.
After the 3 days the smell was gone looked brilliant but still tasted very cidery so down the sink it went.

What I learnt was not all yeasts are the same, and don't brew something that you are not equipped to do properly.

It was a good yeast experiment in the end, finding out what european lager yeast can do when it is at 26 c when it should be between 7 and 12 c

I have a lot more respect for yeast now
