My question is can Napisan be used to sterilise bottles just before bottling the brew? and if yes which one?
reason being is im after a cheaper solution to sterilise my bottles.
Timmo, just be aware that nappi-san will clean your bottles, not sanitise them. Your bottles will only be as sanitary as your final rinse water. Clean them first with nappi-san then follow this up with a no-rinse sanitiser prior to bottling. Search this site for heaps of info on no-rinse sanitisers.
Hydrogen Peroxide solution will be a perfect non-rinse santizer for bottle, just make up a solution and pour from one bottle to the next.
You can buy it from supermarkets or chemists.
Nappi-San is a mild santizer, as the active ingredient ( sodium percarbonate ) breaks down into water, hydrogen peroxide and sodium carbonate ( washing soda/pool ash )
I clean with sodium percarbonate and hot water and follow up with a couple of sprays of a no rinse sanitiser (either One Shot or Betadine/water just to mix things up and keep the nasties guessing!)
Using a spray bottle has been one of the best things I've recently done with my brewing. So easy to spray on work surfaces, onto fermenters, fermenter lid seals just before closing, into airlocks etc etc.
The no-rinse sanitiser I use (brewshield) mixes with water - 30ml per litre if I remember correctly. Follow the instructions for whichever one you end up with.
If you want something that goes a long way try iodophor. The dilution rate there is 1ml/l and a 250ml bottle is only around $8. Much cheaper than brewshield in the long run.
I use iodophor; I bought 1L bottles from ESB. It's $25 for the 1L bottle- I got 2 to make the postage worth it and I'm still on the first, many batches later!

+1 for the iodophor in a spray bottle. Quick, easy, does the job and is cost effective, i wont have to buy another bottle for a couple of years i reckon!
I made a sterilizer pump out of the wifes old hand cream pump..old filter jug..garden riser..
couple of big washers(plastic made them myself)..Drilled a hole in top for the riser..mounted in filter jug..hence the big washers..
left the washers loosely fitted..to drain..fill with Iodophur..Pump away..
Cheers
