I stumbled upon this recipe while looking for columbus recipes and was wondering how something with so much hops can be so low in the bitterness

Next question is has anyone made this recipe?

Black wolf (Schwarzbier)

Original Gravity (OG): 1.062 (P): 15.2
Final Gravity (FG): 1.016 (P): 4.1
Alcohol (ABV): 6.09 %
Colour (SRM): 27.0 (EBC): 53.1
Bitterness (IBU): 13.3 (Average)

83.34% Pilsner
8.34% Munich I
6.25% Carafa II malt
2.08% Aromatic Malt

0.9 g/L Perle (6% Alpha) @ 80 Minutes (Boil)
3 g/L Hallertau Tradition (5.7% Alpha) @ 10 Minutes (Aroma)


Single step Infusion at 66C for 60 Minutes. Boil for 90 Minutes

Fermented at 13C with PRO-79 - GERMAN LAGER

Notes: mash 152@60min all grains except carafaII and barley which are added 10min left to boil time. white lab 830 german lager fement at 52-54 lager at 32-34 4-6wks

I get an IBU of 12.4 if I use the Garetz formula in Beersmith 2 whilst the standard for BS2, the Tinseth formula, says 28.4 IBU. Maybe it depends on which formula BrewMate uses to calculate IBU's?
The other thing is that these hops are not particularly high Alpha Acid hops and the bulk of them are used as a late addition.

Just for interest, substitute a high Alpha Acid variety of hop into those slots just to see how it changes the IBU value.
