Hi AHB experts

Fairly new into partial mashing - (Less than ten partial brews under my belt !!)

It has come out a bit out of balance: (not bitter enough)

Any idea how I can accurately add hop bitterness actually in the keg ?

Many Thanks

Michael

You can easily add some Isohop to the keg & adjust the bitterness to exactly the level you want.

cheers Ross

Ross, re the isohop, where exactly is it on the CraftBrewer site? I can find liquid hops but they are advertised as being for aroma. Wouldn't mind playing with iso for Carlton type clones.

Hi Ross

Thanks - will order when you have listed on site (please advise)

How to work out how much to add?
I thought maybe 5 IBU at a time then taste test?
Does it work straight away or need time to mix in?
How to add to keg - open up lid (depressurize wont that loose carbonation) ?
Does it come with instruction (ie add so many drops per litre for x IBU ?)

These are likely obvious questions to an experince LHBS guy like yourself - But I am a bit stuck with where to start.

Thanks heaps

Michael

Michael,

Your local Hbs my already stock, so check there - Ours will come with full instructions once released - We are just trying to sort out the packaging.

Ross, my LHBS wouldn't know what an IBU was if it bit them in the bum. However no panic because I'm mothballing the brewery for a month as we are moving in 3 weeks (have 4 beers fermenting which will be kegged before the move) and my first job will be to get stuck into the Galaxy that I got from you the other day - had been expected a June move but something came up - and I'll look at some Iso for my Melbourne Bitter clone around mid May when you should have the iso sorted.

Cheers
Michael

Edit wrong Michael but not to worry. :p

Well done Andrew. :super:

Just got Andrew's post, I've been in the depths of the call centre for a couple of days and just looked at the forum as it's gone quiet! Thanks Andrew. PM Sent

I don't think it's possible to make an accurate Carlton Clone with real hops.

I read somewhere that they do hop lightly in the kettle to aid break formation. TB would know.

No matter what yeast, boil length and temperature I use my Carlton clones always have a hint of "Coopers PA" to them. I have a feeling the touch of fruitiness/floral note I get might be PoR in hop form. T'will be interesting to hear from Thirsty.

Either that or brewing at 25C.

My brewing fridge for Carlton Clones has been set at 9C, 11C and 13C.

I've even followed Carlton's "stepping the temp up" procedure.

You want Carlton(s) you can't use flowers - gotta use chemicals.
