Didn't read the whole thread, but dishwashers certainly remove the "gold" or similar embossing from glasses.

if you have a fave "labelled" glass, dont put it in the dishwasher.

Head retention?? who cares, it is only the first glass.

Yes it is true It is a bit discouraging.

The microwave oven will do the same but more spectacularly. Well I think it will, it certainly does away with the gold rim around a coffee mug.
