G'day guys just wondering if turning a fridge on and off will damage it.

I'm just going to be using it to keep my fermenter at a precise temp, using an external thermostats as well. So Turn on for 2 or 3 weeks on then turn off till the next brew.

If anyone uses this system or has any info they would like to share it would be much apretiated.
Cheers!

Many people do exactly this, you should be fine.

Leave the door ajar between ferments though........

Cheers

Cheers Mr B
I think this might be the way to go.

My older ferment fridge has been doing this for the past 10 years, so *should* be ok.

turning the fridge off and on in quick procession can damage the compressor however most new fridges have a time delay, mine does and so does my temp controller

should have a time delay in the external thermostat, my stc-1000 has a 1-10 miinute delay

At ferment temps it will probably only turn on for a couple of minutes each day anyway.

Seeing how cheap (or even free) used fridges are on Gumtree I wouldn't be too worried about it. I'm sure you will get a decent life out of it whatever you do with it.

Cheers everyone, thanks for taking time to post and gumtree bar fridge it is!
