Basically i'm after these 2 ingredients:

- 3lb Munton's Extra Light DME
- 3lb Dry Rice Solids

F****** impossible to find these things in Australia (especially these 'dry rice solids')- i've tried countless homebrew store websites based in Australia/Melbourne with no luck. Most of the U.S. based sites that have what i want don't even ship internationally.

Does anyone know a good Australian supplier of these or similar products? I'd prefer to buy locally than to import ingredients.

Thanks in advance. Have a beer on me :icon_cheers:

I've bought brown rice syrup before from a healthfood store. Not sure if its the same as what you're after, but it is half maltose, half maltotriose apparently.

Hi Antiprism,

Welcome to the forum, and to the craft of brewing if you are new to the game. Don't worry too much about not finding the exact brand of DME (Dried Malt extract), any homebrew store will carry it. If you want it extra light, go for LME instead, which is the same thing in liquid form, comes in a 1.5kg can and offers a greater range of styles/color etc. Some minor adjustments to the weight in your recipe need to be made if you use liquid due to the water content.

Regarding rice solids, please post your recipe. I you are using some grain in the mix, you might be able to get away with plain old rice boiled up and used in a mini mash with some grain to convert the enzymes. Be mindful that rice on its own will not work out too well.

A question for felten. What's the fermentability of rice maltose? If its a viable solution to the OP then skip the healthfood store and buy from an asian grocer, much cheaper at about $3 per 500g.

No idea on fermentability, it wasn't used in beer.
