I use em. I like to use the bubbling frequency as a gauge of how busy the yeast is. Not essential certainly but I always feel more comfortable with a steady 'bloop' coming from the airlock :)

Exactly the same.

I keep the lids so loose on the fermenters in the fermentation fridge that the air locks don't work <_< or I tape over the hole but keep the lids very loose, if a brew is doing a rest out of the fridge then the lid is tight and the airlock is in.

I use gladwrap and will never go back to airlocks and lids...one less thing to clean. I like being able to see what is going on, and I have never had trouble with critters of the 2 or multiple legged variety. Only problem I get is if I haver to move the fermenter ( ie from inside to shed for racking) then I have to walk very carefully to avoid sloshing.

I use em and I sniff em. I dont use them when cc'ing as it wont fit. I just place a new bottle cap over the hole.
Cheers

Im with you, you can tell everystage of the fermention from looking through the top, plus i use an imersion heater so its easy to stick that in two

Bummer, can't smell me wort as the airlock contains 95% ALCOHOL

I use an airlock and quite often sniff the blurps. The cyser at the moment smells divine. Have to wait a few more days for tasting, errr, testing the S.G. to see how far along it is.

If I need to check, I can always look down though the airlock to see how the brew is going, or put a light near the side of the fermenter and look through the top.

In winter, I use an airlock. (and sniff).

In summer, I have the fermenter in a 100 can cooler. I either use a blow-off tube, or as someone on this forum recommended, a bottle cap over the grommet, as the airlock is too tall for the bag.

I don't sniff as much in summer...

Festa.
