Hey, New member here. Was seeing if i could get any advice on adding ginger to an ale or lager kit (23Ltrs) How much ginger root (fresh) nothing fancy or if it just isn't worth it. Thanks ahead.
 
Short answer yes.

Depending on how much you add, you're either going to make it with a hint of ginger or turn it in to a ginger beer, both OK depends on what you want. Using a lager kit is probably a good choice as you don't want toooo much bitterness if any at all.

You would want to grate it and boil it gently, just bringing it to the boil is enough to kill most nasties.
 
Thanks for the reply, How much ginger do you reckon to make it into a ginger beer, i want it with a nice "gingery/spicey" flavour not too overpowering.
I've read in different places to put in about 200g but then some people say 500g.

Also, have you done this with a brew before? just don't want to waste 23L of beer...
