I am going to put in my 4th fresh wort kit tonight . the 1st 3 I have put in the exact amount if water it ways on the kit .and after a few gravity tests and with the unsuable yeasty bit on the bottom I come up short on the yeild it says on the kit .last brew I got 16 liters when it was supposed to be 18 .but it was a stubborn begian dubble that took 5 weeks to finish so I tested it more times than I normally would

the kit I'm making you top up to 20 liters and its an IPA that will be around 5.7 alc when its done

just wonder if I top up say to 21 liters just to cover some tests and some of the sludge will it have much of an effect on the final product ? how much would an extra litre drop alc content on a 20 litre batch ? I like my beers strong and over 5%

Download a free copy of Brewmate, it has a dilution calculator in the tools section, just simply input the gravity and how much volume you want to dilute. If you know the IBUs and EBC it will adjust for the change in these also :)

I'm really loving that functionality of Brew Mate... makes it simple to scale recipes or adjust for different target OG's/abv's.
