Hi,

I have decided I have struggled tipping 20lt of hot water from a stock pot into my mash tun for too long.

Its time to get an urn, theyre stainless steel, have an electric element, thermostat, tap and a sight gauge. I have priced up building a HLT with all the bits I want but it gets over $200 pretty quickly.

The cheapest I have been quoted on is $252+GST at Total Comercial Equipment for a 40L.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

make sure you get the 10Amp one.

Cheers Fellas,

Might just make the jump and buy it, I know I'll get plenty of use out of it.

I scored a second-hand 20L one for $5
best AG investment I've made.
I'd recommend keeping your eyes peeled for a s/h one (unless you're made of money)

I got my 30l urn from macmont hospitality services 41- 55 Holden St
Hindmarsh SA 5007 8245 6200 some time ago - and have been very happy with it.

Current price is $186.36 + GST (apparently this is a special)

They have a 40L one for $258 + GST

No affiliation, just a satisfied customer who used to have too much money to spend.

I bought a 40Ltr Birko urn about a year ago, 15Amp, 2nd hand, decent condition, cost about $120 on evilbay.
I use it both as an HLT and wort boiler. Works brilliantly.
If you hold out, they pop up every once and a while (though not nearly as common as the 20 and 30Ltr units).

Hutch.

Yes, "Evilbay".

I won't say that I got my fully functional 3Kw 40 Birko Urn from the local tip just as someone was lifting it out of their boot to toss.  .
