Hi guys just wanting a hand again plse for my 3rd brew going to put down a black rock lager so Qs are
(A) what can i add to just give it some oomph plse

(B) whats the add on yeast plse for lagers

thanks again for help one day will be able to work it all out

Brew it straight up with a brew booster or 500g malt and 500g dex. You may find you like just like that.

us05 is a good starting yeast but an ale.

s-23 is a lager yeast but you will need temp control to keep it under 15deg. better at 12 or even 9.

cheers

cheers rover yes thats going to be the big Q really is keeping it cool enough,am picking up a few brews next week so might just put the lagers on hold and try another draught until the weather cools down, the one that does interest me also is a stout is that very hard to do a real nice stout dont think i have ever had a commercial one either but someone i spoke to said they liked dark beer and as i say picking up about a dozen kits next week and might throw a stout or 2 in.
ps the fj1200 is that in regards to a yamaha :)

I like dark beer - but I don't like stouts. They have a 'burnt' kind of taste that I'm not at all keen on - so best to check with your friend before brewing.

I've brewed a couple of Toohey's Dark Kits - and I must admit, much as I don't like Toohey's beer that much, their kits are a fave of mine in winter (to drink in winter - I brew in autumn usually). You could brew now - if you can keep the temp down, do so, but if not don't stress too much (as long as it isn't sitting on 30 or above). The Dark kit is pretty forgiving.

cheers yes thats the problem over here keeping the bloody temperature down and cant afford a fridge and the fridgemate and only just starting so getting the "your not spending that this was meant to be cheap" carry on at moment hahaha

back in my kit days with this kit i found that 500g dextrose, 250g Light dried Malt, and 250g Maltodextrin was the go for sugaz. and found that a couple of hallertau hop tea bags were good for a bit of flavour and aroma. boil 1 bag for about 15mins in 500mls of water with your light dried malt. stick the other bag in the fermenter at about 3 or 4 days prior to bottling.

Oh.... I just used the kit yeast and fermented before i had temp control, so in winter in the garage it was about 16-20 deg for the ferment. Dont know why i never did one in summer, prolly cos of the :icon_vomit: factor.

cheers wallace might have to print it off and hide it for winter,

You could brew it now - just try and keep the temp down a little (low 20s). I'm using the water bath and ice bottles to keep things reasonable and it's working a treat. Can you take over the bath (if it's separate from the shower)? Or laundry tub? Or even a corner with a cheap plastic garbage bin from bunnings:
fill bin to just above the wort line with water
put a couple of bottles of ice in (however many it takes)
Wrap it all with an old sleeping bag
????
Profit (or decent beer at least)
