Can someone please explain why this plate chiller helps with hop rocket or whatever it is you guys are talking about?

Cheers
Josh

This is how intend to set it up.

I can either pump from the BM, through the hop rocket, then the chiller and into a fermenter. Or I can gravity feed, or pump back into the BM via a whirlpool thingy I made using only the chiller.

The hoses are all interchangeable so the possibility's are endless.

The theory goes some

The theory goes that the hot wort hits the hops in the rocket and then runs straight through the chiller, as it's a closed system all the hoppy goodness is locked in to the chilled wort, as opposed to whirlpool hops where some of the volatiles are lost. I've had some rocket beers in the keg for a couple of months and still get wacked in the face by the hoppiness. I don't dry hop anymore as the rocket produces upfront hoppiness without the grassiness from dry hopping.

I would think that recirculating back into the kettle would defeat the purpose of hopbacking then chilling, plus you wouldnt know when the kettele volume has passed through the hopback to then commence chilling.

That setup looks neat, too neat....lol. :p

I don't intend to use the hop rocket when recirculating back into the kettle, I'm sure the rocket will be an asset but it's certainly not for every beer I brew. I like the idea that all the hoses and components are easy removed to be cleaned, this time even the March pump is on wing nuts this time.

Sorry for the unintentional tangent I sent everyone on there. I wasn't saying the recirculating was something that should be done ideally - was just trying to work out how one might use it with an immersion chiller setup.
