Late night quick review.

Barls Dark Kriek:

Pours bright, no head. Deep copper.

Aroma of toffee, caramel wafer, whisky.

Flavour is not very sour - light funk, toffee, quite biscuity, dark chocolate, slight oxidation (which is a positive in this instance rather than a negative).

Enjoyable brew, cheers.

glad you liked that one manticle. i just had my last ILS last night - certainly was better after 18 months in the bottle. it was pretty raw and horribly clashing between the sourness and bitterness for a good year. i think though my favourite ever funky stout i made used the now departed wyeast anomalus 5110 - mild but very fruity /leathery in aroma without the vegetal notes brett lambicus/pedio seem to create in dark beers (downfall imo of murrays wild thing) - brew more sour beers manticle! yours were pretty damn good

Cheers nm. The stout inspired me to have another crack at some aged funky ones.

Opened second bottle of Raven's Flanders. Zero carbonation but lovely candied fruits, rosewater, light sourness, dry leather.
