At this point of time in Australia's history it will be interesting to note how committed we are at preserving our heritage & culture for our children's future?

World War 1 & the Gallipoli campagain is what we as Aussies are all about.

I raise a glass for my Grandfather & all his mates who gave their all & more for their country.. I call on all AHB'ers to do the same.

Agreed Pete. Battles such as Long Tan and those in PNG should not be forgotten in a multitude of heroic acts by our Diggers.

Cheers.

Agreed Duff. This day is not only for the heroic WW1 diggers. It is for all those who served our country in all wars & gave us the freedom that we take for granted today.
Without their efforts there may well not have been an AHB forum or much else for that matter?

I am a little ashamed here as after over 2.5 hours there has only been two of us willing to charge our glasses to those who gave so much for us.

Very sad but a sign of our times. :( :( :(

Perhaps the administrators of this forum could put an announcement out every 11th November to encourage those who do not realise the sacrifices that were made for them to be acknowledged on this (And Anzac) day.

Yes TP - i agree.
Was raising a glass today with a RAAFie while we were making Timothy Taylor Landlord Ale.

My Daughter (6yo) visited the Shrine of Rememberance a couple of weeks ago. She was very curious about the plaque "Greater Love Hath No Man" on which the sun shines (Through a tiny hole in the roof of the shrine) on the 11th Hour of the 11/11. So yesterday I took her, telling her we would not be able to actually see the event as the ceremonies were happening and there was no access at the appropriate time. I was pleasently surprised at the conclusion of the ceremonies when they announced that due to Day Light Savings, the event occured at midday and people were welcome to view it.

Long story short We ended up being right next to the plinth when the sun went across it.

I am 40 and this is the first time I have ever seen this. Also, I think that after the ceremony and a million questions about "Why????", my daughter will actually understand this day as she grows up.

cheers to those that gave their lifes to protect our country. I dont reckon there would be many volunteers to put their life up for Australia today .:(

ATOMT

ATOMT that would have been a very special moment. All matches in the Shires Cricket comp stopped for a minutes silence which was a chance to realise just how lucky we are. I am certain that a few guys in the opposing team had Great Grand Fathers that opposed ours back in WW1.
Cheers
