    Coopers Dark Ale K&bits

I will soon be bottling a dark ale (tooheys) experiment. 300g brown sugar and 600g dex on 20L. I only had cascade, tettnanger and super alpha hops, so went with cascade just to see what happened. I thought this may not work well but wanted to experiment. I tasted the wort before piching the...

    Mash Tun?

:D Well, I had some spare mayo buckets (what is with this forum now, you can edit a word once you type it?) and ended up making the gear in the photo. It is like a 19-21 L kettle but I am hoping I can use as a mash tun with the help of the fridgemate (to keep the temp stable) And I guess it...

    Coopers Yeast

Hi brewers, I did collect the yeast from two Coopers Pale Ale beers about six months ago. (Kept in the fridge in sterile water in one of those newborn feeding bottles- quite small bottles with nice lids and wide necks) Last night I sterilised a 2L glass bottle and poured 100g of LDME in...

    Which Temperature Controller To Buy?

For those using a fridgemate: You would like to be aware of this: If you haven't installed a switch to turn off your unit, but use the red power button on the side of the screen, you should be unplugging or turning the unit off at the wall when not in use. Unless it has a hidden funtion I am...

What The Hell Is That In My Beer

Yeah, I also did that. Always rinse them with boiling water from the kettle. I think this is some sort of debris,, maybe from the kettle? that got there just before bottling. Was like a brown scale and cracked in my fingers.

What The Hell Is That In My Beer

Anyway, I opened one of this 500 ml bottles when I finished mowing the lawn today as finally the sun shined after five or six days of rain. Drank it all and did not taste anything wrong with it, but just when I had finished it, I discovered this spot in the bottom of the bottle. -oh my &*^%$ am...

    Aromatic Herbs In Your Beer

good on you! Lemon balm is also prolific and self sows, no much care needed and is highly medicinal. Smells very nice.. a very fine lemon scent I would love in my beer. You only need to touch the leaves with your fingers, no need to crush much the leaves. For culinary this herb can be dried...

    Aromatic Herbs In Your Beer

I know this is how beer was flavoured before discovering hops, but are there any big (or small) names still doing it? I have started planting lemon balm in my yard which has a very nice and fine lemony aroma (and I suppose flavour as well) I was wondering if it can be used to add a finishing...

    Bottle Bombs

I over-primed one of my batches and had two bombs(which I never witnessed) that didnt leave any evidence of being violent explosions. I have now drank most of that batch and only have about 4 or 5 long necks left(old bottles- thick and strong) Now this is weird: When I opened one of these...
