Free Hop Rhizomes- Not exactly sure what type

I am moving out of Sydney and selling the house. For many years there I had a number of hop plants that grew fairly well. They always covered a shed in Summer and died down in Winter, at the moment they are dormant. I did get quite a few hops off them each year and used them here and there...

    Splitting A Smack Pack

My understanding of the article is that they are talking about acid washing yeast that comes from the slurry of a finished beer. This is not what you are doing, your starter does not have the alcohol content of a finished beer. The technique you described will work well, I have used...

    Retail-low Prices

To me the negative posts are from another retailer and should be just ignored as a ruffled rooster doing it few strangled crows. Last year, while living in a remote area devoid of brew shops I did a lot of my shopping online. Ross was absolutely brilliant for being an *honest* online shop with...

Gas Refill In Sydney - Swap N Go Alternative?

Some of the cheapest GAS refills I have been seeing are in the big chain camping stores. I have a Ray's Outdoor near me that does a good rate, I can't remember the pricing accurately but when I was last refilling it was better than a servo or swap over. I am pretty sure BCF also does filling...

    Saison Yeast Characteristics

Thanks for all the replies. I am pretty sure that it is infected now and I suspect the cause is a small fruit fly and a change in starter technique. I had a look at it again last night, lots of fizz but not real yeasty smell. I took the advice here and poured a glass and had a sip. The...

    Saison Yeast Characteristics

I am planning to brew a Saison on the weekend. The yeast I had was a little old, so I started to build it up a couple of weeks ago. I went from 50Ml to 150Ml .. then about 500 Mil and now up to 2L. This last addition does not seem to be going off that much and when I smell it, it seems...

    Better-bottle

It would be good if you could get 23L water cooler bottles, I too think they are the same, likely to be a bit cheaper as well. I have eyed them off a few times but they always seem to be a bit smaller than my normal batch size. Good point about the ridges, still worth a try. One of the...

    Better-bottle

They look to be a perfect size for keggers, I always do my batches at 19-20L, so 23L is just about right. As for cleaning, if they are like Glass carboys then an immediate rinse out then good soaking in Nappy San usually does the trick. Glass carboys are usually not a problem if cleaned...

    Brew Now, Drink Nye

I would consider doing a wheat beer, they don't require the aging that some other beers do and they go well on hot summers afternoon or evening. Kit wise, I have had good results with the Country Brewer summer wheat wet-pack kit and you can't go past a fresh wort kit.

    New Brewers Read This!

Looks like you have been fed a sales line .. if they do run out due to popularity, then they do another print run. John Palmers book is very popular and has been around in several editions for quite a while. Fingers crossed you picked up the latest third edition.

    Pepperjack Ale

I had one on the weekend at a restaurant, quite nice but a I did comment to the other people there that it was a bit thin for my liking. If I was making it I would throw in some kind of Belgian yeast to compliment the fruitiness of the wine.

    Ag Brewing Dvd

Definitely recommended, it is recent information professionally done by a couple of genuine brewers. One of the guys runs a home brew shop, the other is a video production professional and keen home brewer.

Where To Buy Stainless Stockpots In Melbourne?

I notice that Grain and Grape have a number of stainless steel brew pots. Are these reasonable quality and value ?

    Happy Goblin Brewery

The way I see it, you never know. The businesses I see go the best start off small with little risk and then slowly grow, learning and developing as they go. This guy has moved out of his garage and now has a commercial premises, so he is slowly growing and learning. Looking at his car...

    Happy Goblin Brewery

I met the guy the other week, he was holidaying at a place I manage in the snowies, he had the logo on the car. I ended up barraging the poor guy with questions. Pretty much all the info I got is on his website anyway. You are right though, seems to be a young home brewer (chemistry...

Are Breewing Sugars Usable With A Starter ?

There are two reasons I wish to make a starter: 1. It is a new fresh yeast, with these it is not cost effective to put them straight into a brew. They cost around $15 so I usually try to stretch them over a few brews to justify the cost. 2. I am making a lager and will do the fermentation...

Are Breewing Sugars Usable With A Starter ?

After speaking to Pint in the chat and having no luck in the supermarket, I am going to just be patient and wait. Not worth stuffing up a brew and a good fresh yeast with impatience.

Are Breewing Sugars Usable With A Starter ?

Hey Pint, thanks for the reply. The funny thing is I had previously investigated all of the options you mentioned, no spare grain, no kits at the local supermarket, no current brews with the correct yeast. Maybe it is one of those try and see things ... might do a slightly bigger than...
