Craft Beer Industry Concerns - what is and isn't craft beer

I hate dropping into a bottleshop, grabbing a six pack of what looks to be a beer from a new craft brewery (I want to support new small breweries) only to find when I get home that it has no flavour and it is in fact from a megaswill brewery. They need to wack the big boys hard when they mislead...

CUB launches new Crown Golden Ale

Use it kill snails (in a saucer in the vegie patch) or serve to people you don't like who drop in.

    Lager Brewing Process

If you are going to keg rather than bottle, rather than lager in a second fermenter can you lager in the keg?

How do you do your all extract brew

Hi Dan, I do pretty much exactly the same as you, assuming you have some way of controlling fermentation temp as mentioned, and I'm very happy with the quality of the end product. I've done a couple of BIAB brews via the "BIAB for under $30" method. You don't need a lot more gear and it was fun...

    Need Help!

Having been down a similar road, I still think your being too complicated (i.e. trying to do things like making a mid strength). I'm not critising you, as I've made the same mistakes. My suggestion would be to make the recipe below (thanks Tony). It's simple with basic ingredients but is a...

Lesser Of Two Evils? Opinions Appreciated.

Agree with using a bulk priming calculator, I generally only use 150gm of dextrose. Woolworths/Safeway have Woolworths brand electronic scales for about $20. They are perfect for measuring small quantities. Cheers Mark

    Homebrew Vs Imported Beer

I had very similar experience. The first 6 pack of Stones from Dan's was fanastic - blown away by the flavour and aroma :icon_drool2: . The second time I bought it I was gutted - tasted like soda water. Never thought of taking it back, but will next time.

    Step-by-step Biab (lcba Clone)

I used the above for my first attempt at BIAB. After a month is tasted good, but very cloudy. I put a few away and tried a 5 month old bottle the other day. Crystal clear and definately the best beer I have made (and one of the nicest I have tried full stop). I've now got a Dr Smurto's GA...

    Whats In The Glass (commercial)

A mate and I called into a pub in Walsh Street, West Melbourne and they had Holgate ESB on tap. Gave it a try as I'd heard about the brewery but never tried their beer, very nice. Anyone know if Dan's stock it? Cheers Mark PS Sorry forgot to take a pic.

    Craftbrewer Fwk

Just cracked my first bottle of IPA last night. Very tastie! While more expensive than the extract brewing I normally do, I was keen to try something that is basically an AG beer. From this I learn more about what is achievable and helps me decide if I want to go down the AG/BIAB path one day...

Fosters Pulls Vb From Coles/woolworths Shelves

One reason Fosters won't want it is the smaller bottle shops will buy VB from coles/woolies instead of from Fosters. Smaller outlets pay a premium above what Fosters charge coles/woolies because of the smaller buying power. Fosters miss out on this premium if the small guys buy from coles at...

    Bulk Priming

I found bulk priming heaps easier and once I got the amount right, carbination was a lot more consistant. It makes it really easy to use different sized bottles. Cheers Mark

    From Kits To Extracts

Use the Google search function looking for "JSGA extract" and you'll find heaps. Dr Smurto's has the best rep. e.g. http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum/inde...showtopic=18860 Cheers Mark

    High Temps In Melbourne

If you can't afford a working fridge, then try a dead one. With a couple of frozen bottles it'll stay cool even on hot days and it won't cost you a cent. I used to do the wet towel trick, but my dead fridge (got it from my next door neigbour) does the trick over the summer and is heaps less...

    Give Me Your Commerical

Tony's LCBA clone (the extract version) is a ripper http://www.aussiehomebrewer.com/forum/inde...showtopic=26419. Back the hops off a bit to tone it down for your mates if they aren't used to drinking beer like LC's. Everyone who's tried it, loves it. Otherwise Morgan's Blue Mountain Lager with...
