technically it's not a lager, regardless of what the can says. it's still ale yeast under the lid. ;) temps sound fine anyway. how long did it bubble for before it stopped? i'd definitely take a hydrometer reading to see where it's up to.

what temperature was it? higher temps will cause more vigorous, much faster fermentation. can also leave behind undesirable flavours though.

i've actually been contemplating using a pack of us05 i've had in the fridge that's about 12 months past its used by date. opinions?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought boiling kits just drove off the flavour and aroma characteristics of the hops used in the kit, not the bitterness?

I just replace mine whenever i can see there's any colour difference that can't be cleaned out. i've tried taking them apart but i'm too weak. and they're so cheap i can't be bothered trying any harder. :P

I'm interested to hear Bjorn's results, as I've just picked up this can. I was thinking about keeping it simple using S04 and increasing the LDME to about 800g if the kit can take it.

Aged for 1 week? Was it even carbed yet? Sounds simple and tasty though.

My 1st year Chinook is done for the year and dying. Whats the best thing to do now? Cut it off at the base and just leave it? Do they need watering at all until next season?

Also just noticed it's only just inside it's use by date.. 03/2009.
