Hi.

Joe here,

What makes beer yeast , beer yeast?

I mean , if i use my Saf S-04 in my light rye bread will it taste like beer? If I use my bread yeast in my fave lager will it taste like my fave bread rolls?

I don't get out much and like it like that.......

Joe...

Both will work in either instance, but work best for the jobs they were designed for.

My understanding is that bread yeasts are selected for CO2 production (i.e. to make the bread rise well) over alcohol production. I make a lot of bread and the times when I've used spare kit yeasts, I've found the bread to rise more slowly than with the Lowan active yeast I usually use.
