I have recentlty put a yeast cake off an allgrain Cezh Pilsner. The beer off the pilsner tases fine.

The yeast, now in a n earlenmyer flask, after sanitising, is 2 weeks old.

i want to brew and pitch another pilsener this weekend. I plan to separate the trub with some sterile water, then cold pitch.

Questiion is, the yeast slurry has a layer on top. Is this similar to the ring in bottles that identify infection?

pic attached. (sorry about the angle)

usually the yeast wil lsettle out and then all the break and crap sits on top.

best watto test it is to have a glass ready when you pour off the liquid.

taste it and if its ok........... use it............. if you gag.......... get a new yeast!

never trust your eyes........... always trust your mouth!

It wont taste like becks but you will know if its infected!

cheers
