Never done it myself but I think Auspost do a special cardboard wine bottle mailer just wrap a bit of bubblewrap around the bottle.
I think PET is the way to go knowing the postal service.

ANother vote for bottling and seeing how it goes - whats the worst that can happen? Not good & tip it out? Weigh that against what could happen - it becomes a brilliant, enjoyable stout. I'd say bottle that sucker unless its obviously infected.

Anyway, if you're after a good easy stout then just throw a Coopers Stout kit and a Tooheys Dark Ale kit into the fermenter and top to around 23 litres. Should age up quite well after a few months, and doesn't come easier or cheaper than that.

Cheers - boingk
