Sorry for the blatant plug, but Baird Brewing, where I'm the lead brewer, took three gold medals in the 2010 World Beer Cup. It's the largest commercial beer competition in the world with over 3300 entries.

Category 8: Specialty Beer (27 Entries)
Country Girl Kabocha Ale
Baird Brewing Co.
Numazu, Japan

Category 36: American-Style Amber Lager (24 Entries)
Numazu Lager
Baird Brewing Co.
Numazu, Japan

Category 42: Belgian- and French-Style Ale (57 Entries)
Saison Sayuri
Baird Brewing Co.
Numazu, Japan

As you can imagine, we're floating pretty high here in Numazu!

You can check out all the winners here.

AWESOME! Well done! Prizes? Articles? Notariety?

Cheers - Mike

That is awesome Chris.
Have followed you from your homebrew days on Brewboard. That is an awesome result.
Are they all your recipes as well ??

Doc

Category 50: Other Belgian-Style Ale (35 Entries)

What an awesome achievement! One would have been pretty special, but 3, and shipped from Japan....

It was brewed by Malt Shovel (obviously) and supposedly only available via New Norcia Abbey in WA. But It ended up at some of the better bottle shops around the country. I don't know if its brewed year round or not though.

Doc -- and everyone -- thanks. Not my recipes, but I have done quite a few of my own that have been well received. Next World Beer Cup hopefully one of my own creations will get a prize. That's when I really have an excuse to trash my liver!

That's one of the handicaps that overseas brewers have. Besides being expensive as hell to ship the beers, the time and potential abuse the bottles go through to get there makes it impossible to predict how the beers will hold up. Guess ours did pretty well, huh. B)

Well done Chris!

One of my creations got a silver prize!

Category 14: Gluten Free Beer (10 Entries)
O'Brien Brown Ale
O'Brien Brewing
Bakery Hill, Australia

Pretty damn happy about that.

Cheers, Andrew.

I bet you are! Great effort, well done. Must get up there and try your wares.

Well done.
I thought you'd taken out a gold as well for a moment there :D

Edit: Cat 81 (IPA)

Andrew, Congrats. Keep up the good work.

I just had a quick look at the winners, and there are three Australian breweries that won.

Category 14 Gluten Free Beer (10 Entries)
Silver
O'Brien Brown Ale
O'Brien Brewing
Bakery Hill, Australia

Category 50: Other Belgian-Style Ale (35 Entries)
Gold
New Norcia Abbey Ale
Malt Shovel Brewery
Camperdown, Australia

Category 54: Ordinary Bitter (12 Entries)
Silver
Redoak Bitter
Redoak
Sydney, Australia

It's kind of ironic that no Australians took a prize in "Category 38: Australasian, Latin American or Tropical-Style Light Lager (19 Entries)". ;)

All breweries that won a prize deserve our praise and support. Here's to more good beer! :icon_chickcheers:

Nice one CJ! I look forward to sampling (and distributing) your wares in the near future now that they are trickling into the country!

Are they?, excellent (and well done).

Are they?, excellent (and well done).

They have been in Melbourne for a few weeks now. None of the ones that won awards are here as far as I'm aware though. But a great Double IPA & Pale Ale are. Can't remember the others, I think a stout and an amber ale. Hopefully these award winning beers are available in the next shipment.

The info I got from the office manager today is that the beers are imported by a company called Boutique Beverage Distributors in Melbourne. The latest shipment included the following.
633 ml bottles
-- West Coast Wheat Wine
-- Carpenter's Mikan Ale
-- Dark Sky Imperial Stout
-- Temple Garden Yuzu Ale
-- Midnight Oil Foreign Export Stout
360 ml bottles
-- Angry Boy Brown Ale
-- Kurofune Porter
-- Suruga Bay Imperial IPA

Unfortunately, none of the award winners were in the shipment. The only regular beer that won was the Numazu Lager -- the other two are yearly seasonals, a single 900-liter batch each. The 2010 Saison will be released at the end of this week (I just found out), while the 2009 Kabocha is already sold out, but we'll be making the 2010 batch in a few months for release in November.

This is our second (or third maybe) shipment to you guys. Hopefully you can track some down and give it a try -- and hopefully it held up well during the long trip.
