Whether it was plausable to build a massive stir plate to be used to aid primary fermentation.
Short answer no. Yeast needs time to do its business.

I vaguely remember a post to HBD (sorry, can't gind it at the moment) where someone built a magnetic stirrer for a fermenter and compared fermentation to an unstirred ferment. Results were something like: stirred beer finished fermenting much quicker (one day?). The yeast flocced out very quickly when stirrer turned off. Attenutation was higher and the beer tasted dull and lifeless.
