I was brewing on thursday, and I was rung up by work to come in and do a shift. I finished the transfer into the fermenter like usual, but left the cleaning to the next day. The next day, I saw on my kettle the following white dots:

The boil didn't get close to this leven in the kettle.

What could be causing it? Is it a problem? How can I get it off?

Cheers,

Dave

What could be causing it? - Could be where the bubbles have burst
Is it a problem? - For you it could be
How can I get it off? - Try cleaning instead of typing

Cheers,

Dave

pnc,

Must be an aluminium kettle is it? I beleive it just oxidised aluminium. Just scrub it off.
I have an aluminium bracket in my herms system that does exactly the same thing. I wouldnt worry about it too much.

cheers

Do you use a fair bit of gypsum in your brews?

I notice deposits like this when I brew my BPA bitter with lots of gypsum in the water.

Gypsum? well, I use tap water; not sure about the gypsum content in SA water.

 batz.

vlbaby- that sounds like it, because yeah the pot is made of aluminium.

Cheers,

Dave

Having spent basic training in Edinburgh, I can attest that SA water probably has any number of chemicals or compounds in it capable of attacking aluminium ;)

cheers
