I've got two siphons like this:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Auto-Si...860171?hash=item4403a4118b:g:La8AAOSwEAtZaHfz

problem is, the plastic piston seal quickly wears and gets leaky, so air goes past and it aerates your beer. Both do it. Not good. On the other hand it's good because the pump is inside a cylinder and it doesn't quite pick up from the bottom, so it doesn't disturb the sediment. But the aeration is a pain so I bought one like this:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Jiggle-...793055&hash=item3af572083c:g:uVQAAOSw6GJZ8KVI

but it takes a lot of jiggling to get the beer up the tube enough to siphon. When it does, it's great: with 19mm the flow rate is excellent.

But I'd like something that combines the good points of the autosiphon with the flow rate of the jiggle siphon. Any thoughts?

With the jiggler you can fill the tube with beer (take with small sterilised pouring jug) from the top of your brew and put your finger over the open end. Then start to jiggle in the brew and release your finger, then put the tube into what you are filling.
Practice using the sink, you’ll find it works quite well.

Lol. Probably the syringe would the better option with a tube reducer to match needs.

What sort of fermenter are you siphoning from, and are you siphoning into kegs, bottles or a secondary fermenter?

What I'm siphoning from is largely irrelevant. it's a glass carboy, so you have to siphon. What I'd like is an autosiphon with a larger bore and a better seal. it probably doesn't exist.

another possibility is that I could go over to a conical fermenter and do away with the need to siphon.

Did you miss this?

He'll struggle to take to jug of beer using a glass carboy.

I was hoping that would be your answer. Have you seen these?

Review here:

If they aren't available locally, you could probably MacGyver one out of a rubber bung and the inner part of your autosiphon. The HEPA filters are available from some of AHB's sponsors.

Thanks for all the advice everyone, much appreciated. As a microbiologist I don't like putting my finger over the end of a siphon tube. As a bloke with a bad back I like the idea of using a plastic (=light weight!) conical fermenter so I don't need to siphon again.

I'm seriously thinking of the fermentasaurus.

I really like the quick and ready advice from this forum.
