I reckon you should buy Charlie Papazian's book' The Complete Joy of Home Brewing' and do a lot of reading.

Or "How to Brew" by John Palmer, that's where I started.

Exactly, and if you want to get right into the nuts and bolts.... Brewing Lager Beer by Gregory J. Noonan.

I had to read books, there was no internet when I started.
 
Start with this site and the search function. Then once you've worked out what system and methods you want see if there's any other sites that specialise in them. I BIAB and there's a forum site dedicated to it, YouTube, blogs,etc.
Local library was good too. I hog the only copy they have of John Palmers, "How to brew".
Knowledge is power and the more you can learn before you crank up your set up and start putting $$s in the better.
