Its not really unlimited. There are " fair terms of use"...a std call is classed as 2mins.

So I am now looking at amaysin $40 ( optus) or Hello $40 ( vodafone ). But being in the bush is a kicker, but the towns I would visit have coverage by both so much of a muchness.

Telstra are just being greedy. **** em.

best network by far though, that's why they can afford to be greedy. Can't blame them, really.

yep.. I fork out a silly amount each month to tel$tra for the privilege. Was with optus for over a decade prior but as soon as everyone started using data it went down the gurgler. Poor reception, SMS's being delivered late or not at all, useless speeds.. and this is all just 5km out of the city!

Just cause they have the "best" network is no reason to screw everone over...

Boost are also on Telstra 3g but they have also wound back to 2 gig for $40. When Aldi cut back to 2.5 gig for their unlimited $35 plan Boost offered 3 gig for $40 but they are also now castrated.

what network do Amaysim use?

I am going to shout:

AT A POINT IN HISTORY WHEN UNIVERSAL AND ABUNDANT DATA ACCESS IS THE RIGHT OF ALL INDIVIDUALS, WHY ARE WE ALLOWING OURSELVES TO BE SCREWED IN AUSTRALIA BY THE OVERLORDS OF GREED??

</shout>

yantago mobile is with optus, gives you one month trial, then you can set what your plan how you want to spend.just signed the mrs over to them.and i will go over to them in may..i was with crazy john good prices, but vodaphone is closing them down and the prices they are offering is crap

I know you don't like Telstra, Stu, but have a look at the encore cap prepaid plan from them.

If you get the $50 model, you get 800mb of data included and can use $49 of the $50 to buy an additional 3GB, so you end up with 3.8GB (very close to your 4GB requirement) plus $950 worth of cap credit, plus free calls and texts 6pm to 6am.

All that on the best network, especially out bush where you are, uncapped 3G speeds (unlike ALDI etc) and 4G.

Do the sums, might be better than the other plans you were looking at.

Use your credit for any of the Plus packs:

Are you sure you can use money already spent to buy the data packs? It seems too good to be true.

Yep, according to here: (that's also in line from what I remember from my early Telstra days, topping up 30 and spend 10 of that on a browse pack, and the remaining 20 and calls and texts).

Telstra
Telstra’s broad 4G coverage means it’s a very popular choice, but it also charges a serious premium for data, which makes it difficult to find a plan that offers any reasonable amount of data. As we’ve noted before, this can be done via the Encore Cap deal — but it’s a confusing plan that requires careful explanation.

Here’s how you can use the Encore Cap deal to get a decent calling and data allowance:

Buy the $50 recharge. This includes $950 worth of calling and texting credits for Australian numbers, and the ability to make free calls and texts between 6pm and 6am. While not as good as an unlimited deal, for calling and texting purposes, this should be more than adequate for most people. (And if you do use all the credit, you won’t be stung with excess charges; you’ll just have to recharge again.)
The problem with this plan on the face of it is that it only includes 800MB of data, which isn’t a lot. However, there is an option to add extra data without spending any extra money. Here’s how.
As well as $950 for call credits, the $50 recharge also includes $50 of “recharge credit”, which you can spend on other services (such as dialling international or premium numbers). The important point here is that you can spend that credit to buy a $49 Browse Plus Pack, which adds 3GB of data to the 800MB you already have.
When we’ve written about this plan before, many people have misunderstood and assumed you have to spend $99 a month ($50 for the cap and $49 for the Browse Plus Pack). That’s not how it works. That extra data can be paid for with the “recharge credit” which you are assigned when you spend the first $50.

Yes, that’s a slightly fiddly arrangement. In particular, you have to ‘buy’ a new browse pack (via your mobile or computer) each month and can’t automate the process. Nonetheless, it’s easily the best-value deal on the Telstra network.

that's awesome, no wonder it's vague on the main page!

also means I'm being totally ripped off on my 24 month plan in comparison.. :'(

Yeah, I reckon they have this plan to milk the people that don't understand it and don't really care either and at the same time please the smart arses in the know.

Still $50 for for 3.8gb....as for speed, not overly concerned...if 25mb/s is good enough for Turnbull & Abbott its good enough for me as I dont do streaming. I have good Voda & Optus coverage in Grafton due to it being on the Pacific Hwy.

I haven't been on Optus for yonks. But DO NOT go for vodafail.

It's absolutely crap. I'm waiting for Monday to call the ombudsman. 3 complaints in the last month and all I get is someone that offers consolation and fuckall real help. If you go inside a house with walls you are screwed. Go inside work and screwed. Have 4/5 or full bars out in the middle of no buildings (airport) blocking signals and it takes 7 tries to get through to a LANDLINE in the space of reading out a cc number. Absolutely pathetic.

What I'm trying to say is, I had good voda coverage in Melbourne, brissy and Canberra.

********* coverage in cairns, Byron and now adelaide. Each time it is bad they cannot and will not do anything to help, to be fair, they go fuckall to help with. They're ****.

Well I have gone with the Amaysim $40 unlimited/4gb/30day plan. Runs on Optus which is fine here.

Will see how it goes. Really only want the data, which the big 2 rape you on.

I just moved to a new place. At the old place, I had tesltra 100Mbps cable. At the new place, cable isn't available. Did some research and found out they aren't allowed to charge an early termination fee if they can't provide an equivalent service at the new address. So, I ring them up to cancel the service. She asks why, and I tell her that telstra are unable to provide an equivalent service at the new address. She tells me she's sorry, but i'll have to pay the early termination fee. I tell her there are laws preventing them from charging the early termination fee if an equivalent service cannot be provided at the new address. INSTANTLY, she says "yes, that's right".

So, they are quite aware of this, but unless the customer is aware, they'll happily charge. That's so ******* unethical...

Its ********...but they do it all the time. They make there plans so complex that they rely on the customer going "**** it...ill take that one'

My last employer used to sell telephone systems...and suck them into maintanence plans as an extra..

I think it's funny when people slam Telstra for being too expensive (which they are) and then complain about every other provider in the market.

I pay a premium for Telstra and even in the remote area I work which is about 1000km from the CBD I still get perfect reception and most of the time faster data transfer than most other carriers.

The reality is that Telstra IS the best....and they charge accordingly...

Vodafone basically cherry pick areas of high users/population.

Its interesting as all of the providors have to use telstra infrastructure at some point...

On the subject of Aldi mobile:

Got a sms from them this morning saying I had breached section 5.3 of their acceptable use policy. 2 breaches result in permanent service suspension.

I had sent a whole bunch of MMS (holiday pics) to a number of recipients, obviously too many. So instead of warning me or cutting the MMS service off until next month or whatever it's an instant breach which could cost me their service next time.

Am I really supposed to manually count and keep track of my usage to make sure i don't overstep the mark?

This was only my first breach, but needless to say I'll be out of there soon.
