I think the 1056 preponderance in the BCS list reflects the fact that BJCP is an american standard.
I think the 1056 preponderance in the AHB list shows that the APAs are popular in australia.

Just observations.
 
Yeah, saying it was slightly flawed was probably a little misleading. It's definitely helpful for deciding on the most common yeasts for the style you want to brew.
 
I pretty close to your way of thinking there matti,

But you only have to chuck in a belgian, a kolsch and a wheat ... and suddenly its heading back up to 10 strains again.

Still, I reckon your right, 5ish strains will end up doing 95% of the work
Dont fancy Belgians too much yet.....hmmmmmm
You should never say never....but....,i have not yet had ago at a wheat beer.
But a Kolsch yes.
Ahhhh yes....... 8 strains it is.
