I was thinking the other night about when I was an apprentice and just starting my drinking carrier and some of the things I got told that would stop me getting drunk, some being

Drink 1/2 a cup of vegetable oil before you start... :icon_vomit:

Only drink Vodka, cause you cant smell or taste it...

luckily i never tried the oil....but I know someone who did..!!!...he told me it didnt work..

Who else as been told some crazy wivestales...??

Adrenalin......

I remember my wedding day, I must have drunk nearly half a case and some rum by the time I got to the alter, it was a 4:30pm wedding.....And I still felt quite sober by the end of the night, and all through the reception I had a beer in hand...

There are other techniques that mask the effects, but I'm pretty sure I can't mention those here...

My Dad used to drink a pint of milk before his Friday night out down the local. Says it was to line his stomach??
Cheers
Steve

put LCPA in the fridge

I got told to drink a bottle of milk before going out when i was younger

It aparently lines your stomach and stopes you getting drunk.

I've been told a couple of old wives tales to help avoid hangovers, but never anything to prevent the drunk effect. the vege oil one would surely be worse for your health then getting drunk ^_^. well ill stick to that theory anyways :icon_cheers:

I'd reckon I'd spend a night on the can if I drank a cup of oil - and unless you brought beer with you, it would stop you getting drunk I guess.

Don't drink.....

Seriously
Eat well, drink loads of water prior, during and after.
B vitamins.

Carrying a bit of extra weight help too.

Chalk absorbs well but taste like v!@#$ :p

I got told the same thing....could never work out why I felt worse afterwards when doing this....then I found out, I'm lactose intolerant.

Bahahaha, that's too funny....

As for old wives tales, eat a heap of roasted potatoes......They won't stop you getting drunk, but they do slow it down a little.

I've been told :D if you take mythamphetamines you can drink alcohol like water and you won't get drunk because it is the more powerful of the two drugs - like the adrenalin post.

So if you've got a drinking contest coming up and want to impress ...

That would be methamphetamines, and in reality any amphetamine will do it......

I can speak from experience from my younger days, feeling stone cold sober but my stomach not being willing to accept anymore beer...It only counters the mental effects....

The milk thing is true. It slows down the absorption of alcohol through the stomach lining. co2 carbonation increases the absorption...

Some random old wives tales:

- the "worm" in the bottle of tequila absorbs all the alcohol
- putting one foot on the floor if the room starts to spin when you're in bed will stop the spinning
- your "friends" will never take advantage of the fact that you're passed out and helpless
- your camera is safe around a bunch of drunks when you go to bed (see exhibit A below)
- if you leave your beer outside (winter) or in the freezer too long and they freeze, they're a lost cause
- the girl that tells you she's X years old is actually X - 4; this makes for some awkward moments when greeting said drunken mess's parents whilst escorting her home

I try to have equal volumes of water between beers, that helps keep the body hydrated (beer doesn't).
But water is flavorless and uninteresting so sometimes i will use bourbon and coke instead but i find it somehow less effective ;)

Having a good meal, the food in your stomach will reduce the speed of absorption of alcohol into your blood stream.

If its a fatty meal, your body will put all efforts into breaking down the alcohol, as such in the meantime it stores the food as fat on your body.

That felt way too scientific for 10 minutes to beer oclock...

I find as I am getting a little older and wiser I know the pain of a hangover all too well hence dont have too many big nights (damn that makes me sounds old as.... <_< )

Then again as a younger pup, I felt it was more about conditioning the body, hence regualr big sessions were the order of the day...
