I've read all of those books, and the last two were much more enjoyable. I do like chemistry, but learning it was pretty dry most of the time.
 
Beware the LHB that sells barbs, tees ect that are 6mm for use on 4mm and 5mm lines. Yes you can heat them up and force them on only to have the line crack at the edge of the fitting and waste a new cylinder of gas.
And i to love my Perlics flow control taps.

I've never had a leak there, are you sure you aren't over-tightening the top of the tap?
Or the o-ring hasn't been lubed.
