I recently bought a water filter from craftbrewer to -duh- filter the water used for brewing beer.

However - as I am not really good at making, building or fixing things I never even contemplated that it would not hook up to the taps I have in the apartment we rent.

No probelm - I'll just go over to bunnings (it is just across the road) and get something that will fix it - the guys with red shirts should give me advice and recommend something that is in my best interest. Was I stupid to think that? Because the fat man in red who was busily gossiping away got quite offeneded that I would interupt his conversation with his fellow employee to get some help...after I explained to him that I wanted to connect up the water filter to the tap he said that I need to buy a whole new tap setup (the font + hot and cold taps). Wouldn't sell me a font on its own (said they don't sell them seperatly - but after a little wander I found some) and told me that I would pay more if I went to a plumbing supply shop just for a font.

I thought bunnings was the place to go if you had NFI about building shit and they would help you out...well whatever.

Now I didn't think I would have to rely on you guys for your advise, as I thought that wanting to spend money at bunnings would be enough for them to help me out.
Anyways,

here is my tap.

What are my options? New tap - is there an adaptor or something?

Have a look under the sink Phillip, I think that's where the fitting should go. What does the instructions for the filter say ?

This is one that fits to the tap...you screw the little part to font and the black switch allows you to change the flow from the tap to the filter.

I see. you just need to change the font on your sink for one that has a threaded connector on the end. Sorry, if this is starting to go down the lines of what was said in Bunnings.

Is it going in your laundry? If so you may be able to make it work from your washing machine taps.

bunnings have heaps of stuff , howvever most of the staff wouldnt have a clue what its for /does , and its not always the cheapest , try a specialised plumbing shop , take yout bits and peices in with you take the photos as well even take and undersink photo of the fittings etc etc , just ask them whats possible , they 'should' be able to give you some useful options on how it can be fitted ... i only go to bunning when i know what i want , had a key cut there the other day , doesnt open the lock it was cut for ... think that had happened at least once b4 too..

theyre a chain store , they advertise all the advice and things but they employ people who really dont know in a lot of cases

That sink doesn't look like it'll have under-bench fittings. It'll all be plumbed in the wall. You should be able to screw the font off and screw another onto the thread thereby exposed.

exactly what I wanted to do...I wanted to find out if that font I have is of universal nature - i.e. there isn't different sorts of fonts that would fit different set ups - and if that is the case which font I should buy.

So since my font is doesn't connect underneath my sink as you noticed I am hoping to just buy an old font or looks like I might have to go to a pluming supply shop with that photo and hope they are willing to help :)

Thanks a lot guys :icon_cheers:

turn the head sideways and twist it off , be careful not to break it off im guessing youll find a standard 1/2" BSP thread comin out of your wall to which you should be able to screw a wide variety of fonts / outlets

^^^ and dont forget to turn the mains water off first huhuhuhuhu

Phillip let us know how you get on. I have the same issue with the tap downstairs and have to take the water from the kitchen upstairs. Good exercise.

Not needed with that setup. Just have the tap turned off. I had the same thing on my 1960's laundry tub which now sports a shiny chrome swan neck.

That is what I thought...

I thought I really just need a new font - and most will probably fit my setup - hopefully.

Will post pics and update some time next week or thereafter when I my funds regain consciousness from the onslaught of christmas and other brewing supplies :)
