Traveling brewer

Hi I'm looking at hitting the road with my young family. The thing is we not sure what's the best place to go in regards of home brew community lifestyle and local breweries etc . So I'm looking @ SA VIC NSW poss TAS. Any input would be great.

Well Bradsbrew,

thinking once we have a few suggestions we will take holidays in those places to see if its to our liking . then stay for 6-12mth once we find a place we like longer if its really good. In WA at present and my wife wants to travel before the kids start school. We got family here and friends in brisbane and family in NZ, So i'm thinking VIC Melbourne? but open to any thing.

Victoria would tend have some of the best breweries around..few of them within short reach of the city

I know you didn't mention Brisbane but, from afar, it looks to have a thriving craftbrew scene. If you're looking for a smaller town-type place northern VIC, (Bright, Beechworth) has some great stuff going on. Melbourne of course, craft is just past top of the roller coaster hill here. Buckle your seatbelts.

Being born in Sydney, raised in Shepparton (200kms north of Melbourne), and having travelled to a lot of parts of Australia with work over the past few years - I do have some impartiality when I say that I LOVE Melbourne.
I moved here for uni at 17 years of age, and haven't left (now 34).

The cold winters are the only negative, but I rate Melbourne as Australia's most vibrant city (no offence to the other cities, many of which I really like too).

It is a city though… it can be busy, hectic, impersonal, dirty, and apparently dangerous, and you'll get a very different experience in different parts of the city and suburbs (same as all cities or big towns).

And as far as craft beer goes, I think we're up there (for Australia). The fact that we host Good Beer Week is testament to this.

Launceston, Tasmania has been voted Australia's most family friendly city in a couple of polls recently.
Our farmers market has also recently been voted the best in the country.
There will, very shortly, be a small scale floor malting operation here (the owner of which is very dedicated to the home brew community).
Tasmania is also the biggest hop producer in the country.
We make the best whiskey in the world.
Our sparkling wines are among the best in the world.
Seafood is off the charts.
Property is actually affordable here.
It takes me 3 minutes to get to work.
I can keep going if you like.

Oh good feedback everyone Tassie is in my mind and that's way Melbourne is too. Just a shirt trip over. My wife like the feel and look of freo if anyone can relate. I follow the beer and brew scene.

Because it is bigger than Launnie and no where near as big as Sydney and Melbourne, why anyone would choose to live in either of these places is beyond me. But, mostly becasue it isn't Launnie and I felt like **** strring the north/south thing, sorry for amusing myself at your locations expense.

I find it completely rediculous that if Hobart gets something Launcestion and the NW coast have to get something equivalent, and vice versa. We don't have the population to support multiple things, whether it be Sporting events/Teams, Fully equipped hospitals or university campus for every region of the state. I understand the distances and that Tasmanians don't like to leave their postcode, but it isn't that far, a couple of hour drive to see a specialist is the norm once you get out of the capital city in other states.

I'd better stop that is two internet rants this morning.
