I really like 5150 (have that on my number plates) but don't really like any of the other VH albums with Hagar on them anywhere near as much as any of the DLR era albums.
That is probably because half of 5150 was written before Sammy joined :)

But then the first DLR VH album (Van Halen) is a lot better than the first Hagar VH album (5150). Not sure if that says somehting or not...

Ice Cream Man was a cover and embodied all the sexual inuendo and tongue in cheek attitude that went into making Van Halen the great band they were. They grown up a lot now and probably wouldn't release a song like that but when they were 19/20 it would have been a laugh.

How come no ones listed Britney Spears... maybe not good beer dirnking music....????

Just for you jayse, 10 of the best from my favourite bands:

I looked at the title of this thread and just knew who had started it.

Trying to choose ten is tricky, but limiting it to one album per artist and including a bit of variety, this list should cover it:

Fantomas - Delirium Cordia
The Tea Party - Edges of Twilight

Ten equal firsts and including some "Best Of..." albums to cheat a little...

1.Somery - The Descendents
1.Revolver - The Beatles
1.Dem's Good Beeble - The Gourds
1.Sweetheart of the Rodeo - The Byrds
1.Swordfishtrombone - Tom Waits
1.Frosting on the Beater - The Posies
1.Remasters - Led Zep
1.Trace - Sonvolt
1.And Out Come The Wolves - Rancid
1.Decade - Neil Young

There are plenty more equal firsts but I didn't have to put in Mule Variations Tom Waits or Anodyne Uncle Tupelo or Ill Communication Beasties or Nevermind Nirvana as they have featured in other lists. Would have loved to put in a few more Neil Young especially with Crazy Horse and more Tom Waits like Bone Machine or Small Change and maybe Exile on Main St The Stones and Workingman's Dead the Grateful Dead. Also loved that John Hammond album that bradmcm mentioned (all Tom Waits covers). Tom has "it" like very few others do.

OK, this isn't in order of preference, but in order of when I think of them-

1- Alice In Chains- Best Of (well, if I couldn't have this, dirt)
2- Metallica- S&M (I like the dimension the symphony adds)
3- Pantera- Official Live: 101 Proof (live they have an energy that's not in their studio albums- Walk is fantastic on the album!)
4- Midnight Oil- Blue Sky Mining (their best album, every track is great)
5- Slipknot- Vol 3: The Subliminal Verses (brilliant, less blind hate and more emotional searching)
6- Mudvayne: Lost and Found (brilliant)
7- Audioslave (reall nothing to add)
8- Opeth- Blackwater Park (I love this)
9- Beethoven's 9th Symphony (the third movement does something for me, I don't know why... must be the minor sevenths)
10- Mr Methane- Trouser Trumpet (If I want a laugh)

If I could have another I would add supposed former infatuation junkie by Alanis Morisette, it's all about a spiritual journey; fantastic

EDIT: added extra album

Mr. Methane! I heard him once on MMM. That bloke's extraordinary.

"Relationship Of Command: At the Drive In"

forgot about that one!!! definantly should be on my top ten!!

Warren,

I actually bought Mr Methane's album, my justification being that "farts can never not be funny".
I was actually wrong. There comes a time where continous farting stops being funny. Don't get me wrong - the guy is a talented farter, and he put a lot of work into the album, but after a while you realise that farts just aren't that versatile an instrument!
Cheers,
Steve.
PS - If I can find it, I can send it to you. It must be Christmas! pm me if you want it.

I appreciate the offer Mongo thanks. Think I'll decline for now.

Did you hear there's a new album. "Mr Methane Follows Through". ;) (joking)

Warren -

Looking thru this thread just reminds me of all the great bands I forgot.

Pavement, Guided by voices, The Cult, Neil Young, Tom Waits, At the drive-in.....

Also Girl Against Boys - "Venus Luxure No 1 Baby" & "Cruise Yourself"

and The Wrens "Secaucus" & "Silver".....

Top stuff

Jez

P&K

Blue Sky Mining as Midnight Oils best album?!?!?

Fair enough if you love it but what about "Species Deceases" or "Red Sails In The Sunset"? Have you heard them? You should definitely seek them out too.

Classics
