Hi everyone,
Have been getting back into brewing recently and am thoroughly enjoying it. Have never really had any dramas until today where I think something has gone wrong with my latest brew.
It is a toucan, really simple. Two cans of thooeys lager, 1 kg of dex and both yeast packets made to 23l. Mixed up and yeast pitched @ 20 degrees. Placed in a dead fridge I've made into a fermenting chamber and temp set to 18 degrees.
I didn't check on this at all during the 6.5 days fermentation time. However we had a couple of cold nights that dropped the chamber temp to 15 degrees for one or so days.
Anyway, today I kegged it. I usually taste the wort before racking into the keg. It was very sweet, like strong caramel cordial. Pretty much watered down extract, which worried me. After dispensing into the keg I had another taste of what was left in the fermenter. This time it was very watery, like a teaspoon of sugar in a teacup of water taste.
I also noticed there was no krausen caked on the side of the fermenter this time. I'm thinking fermentation has not occurred. I don't have a hydrometer at the moment which annoys me. Any ideas where I can go from here? If fermentation has in fact stalled, can I kick start it again in the keg?
Cheers
