I've been Ag'ing for a short while now and each time I brew put in my order at the LHBS and they mill and pack the grain to my specs ready to throw in the mash tun...perfect. Now of course the only issue with this is the high cost of buying 4-5 kg of grain at a time.

I have heard of a couple of LHBS's running a "grain book" where you pay for 25kg or more of grain and draw down on this as needed which is a much cheaper way of doing things.

Is there anyone in Sydney that does this type of thing, or should I just STFU and go and buy a mill :p

OOPS, read the op please B)

Haven't heard of anywhere like that in Sydney, Paddo. Shame really as it seems like a great system and should help shops get more return business.

I just bought a mill. <_<

Go buy a mill.

You know you want to.

just ring few opf your LHBS and see if they wil do it. they might be happy to do it on a individual basis. oh and buy a mill also.

How much are you paying Paddo? I get mine from CraftBrewer and once you hit 5k the price drops, for example I'm currently getting milled BB Ale or Galaxy for $3.60 a kilo, and it's flat rate freight up to 25k. Edit: still getting most brews for under the twenty dollar mark so it's working out the same as kits n bits. Not as cheap as a bulk buy of course but if I had to lay out a few hundred for a mill it would take an awful long time to pay for itself.

More useful in my case would be an option to get a very fine crush for say 20 kg which would be better for BIABbing.

Do your sums to see if a mill is worth it.. how often do you brew?

I think Powells were selling 25kg sacks for approx $50, ie $2/kg
G&G do crushed Powells > 2kg for around $2.50/kg or so, JW around $3.50/kg

As much as a decent mill would be great, I'm quite happy buying as required for very little extra.
