Sodium Metabisulfite and glass

Does it etch in?

I managed to splash some onto the wifes induction cooktop and I can't get it off.

It looks like translucent white drops.

I've tried hot water, glass cleaner, Mr. Sheen.

They are not budging.

Any ideas?

Wife not too happy.

It won't etch in to glass, people used to clean bottles with the crap. If it's caked on it's probably just stubborn.

CLR might get it.

Must be some kind of coating on the glass surely....

Have you tried Cerapol? It usually cleans up glass cook-tops really well. *Disclaimer: I am not responsible if it makes it worse*

If water doesn't wash it off then it has reacted with something coating your cook top.

No idea if it works on fancy pants cooktops, but turps and steel wool cleaned years of caked on bird poo from skylights when all else had failed (well maybe not all else, but we'd tried a fair few products by then and were leaning towards just replacing the glass). I accept no responsibility if you end up with a completely farked cooktop.

What about some cut & polish (like you use on a car) ?
This might polish off any etching.

We used to have a big sliding back door made of shatter proof glass, I used a grinder at least 6 feet away from it, the sparks embedded themselves into the glass. We have new bi fold doors now, and I wore the blame only because I couldn't think of a way to blame her.

kitchen is on about 4-5 years old, so no refurb.

Good for you. It takes a real man to own up and apologise.

While we're here though, consider ditching the sodium met altogether. There are heaps of better alternatives. My personal preference is starsan, which is easy to use, cheap, lasts forever and sanitises really well.

Also, have you considered brewing outside? Any spillages or boilovers - no problem. Honestly it's a win-win situation.

If it's that new, complain to the manufacturer that the finish on the cooktop is no good. They may have ideas, or even choose to replace it to keep you happy.
