Clearly, this isn't apples to apples, but the general consensus seems to be single malt whiskys are the most flash. So is there a style of beer that relies on one type of malt exclusively?

First recipe that springs to mind is a czech pilsner, which is a Single Malt and Single Hop (SMaSH) beer. The second that comes to mind is an english barley wine, which can also be a SMaSH of marris otter and EKG.

Single malt doesn't mean it's been made from one malt type - just that it's come from one distillery. Opposite of vatted or blended malt (even though single malt may still be a blend of various vintages from the same distillery for consistency).

I'm not sure that this is entirely correct -
i thought "single malt" refers to the fact that it is from one distillery, not a blended whisky, and certainly not refferring to the fact that they are more 'flash'. And whiskys are inherently made from one type of malted barley.

but yes, SMaSH beers are single malt and single hopped beers.

Single malt whisky is a whisky made from only one type of malted grain and distilled at one particular distillery. - Say's wiki anyway. I spose 'type' is open to interpretation as in there is more than one 'type' of pale malt.

I'd say that it only means that to be called single malt it can only be made from barley. Michael Jackson's definition only says that it's the product of one distillery (Michael Jackson's Malt Whisky Companion)

My standard beers are brewed exclusively with Pilsener malt, nothing else and so many of the German beers are brewed.
